My Name is Rachel Corrie will hit the stage in Chicago this Friday, October 22 @ 7pm at DePaul University’s Cortelyou Commons (2324 N. Fremont Street, Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL 60614). NOT TO BE MISSED!

About the play: Rachel Corrie was a 23 year-old American peace activist who traveled to Gaza in 2003.  Rachel left Evergreen State College in Washington State to work with the International Solidarity Movement in preventing the demolition of Palestinian homes.  On March 16, 2003 Rachel was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer.

Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner have brilliantly reconstructed her life, working from over 180 pages of Rachel’s diaries, letters, and emails.  The show was firsts performed at the Royal Court Theatre, London, on April 7, 2005.  It was first produced in the U.S. at the Minetta Lane Theatre in New York City in October 2006.  The play has been surrounded by much controversy.  It was originally slated to premier stateside at The New York Theatre Workshop, but was cancelled due to its political content.  Later productions in Toronto, Oregon and Florida were also cancelled when the show was deemed too controversial.  Nevertheless My Name is Rachel Corrie has impassioned proponents, and has raised an unprecedented call to support political work and the difficult discourse it creates.
